Restaurants struggle when customer ordering experiences are detached from kitchen preparation queues. Verbal or paper order handoffs cause communication lag, menu 86-ing errors (selling out of stock items), and slow table turnover during peak hours.

Operational Workflow

Menu Discovery & Customization

Customer selects meal items with immediate modifier calculations (add-ons, dietary notes) and reviews dynamic subtotal.

Order Submission & Ticket Creation

Cart payload validates on server and emits a structured order ticket to the active shift register.

Kitchen Line Display & State Transition

Kitchen station sees real-time order card appear, marks status: Received → In Prep → Ready.

Checkout & Ticket Settlement

Cashier reconciles order ticket with payment method, marks complete, and archives record for daily sales reconciliation.

Key Engineering Decisions

Optimistic UI updates paired with lightweight state event synchronization.

Required client-side conflict resolution when kitchen and cashier modify status concurrently.
